We've lost Molly

I am very sad to post the obituary of this wonderful woman, one of my greatest heroes in all the world. Molly Ivins, as remembered in The Nation. I seem to remember she was the one who coined the suitably contemptuous nickname "Shrub", and she was never so funny, or so impassioned, as when she was ripping a new one for some neocon, or consigning a wishy-washy Democrat to her own region of hell for failing to stand by principles. I was looking for some good quotes, and found this excellent article I will not support Hilary Clinton for president, and also the inimitable Cow Whisperers Against the War, both of which I urge you to read, because there ain't gonna be any more of this priceless stuff.

Death of a Cowgirl

From Reuters, via Yahoo News, I just happened to find this story: Cowgirl Reeves Dies at 101 After Fall from Horse. Obviously one of the best people to come out of Texas, along with Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower and the Dixie Chicks.

Molly and Ellen on William "Mr.Virtue" Bennett

Ellen Goodman on William "Mr. Virtue" Bennett, his gambling jones, and Mrs. Bennetts' sangfroid in the face of it. All old news by now, but we didn't really get this story in the UK and I only found out about through idly surfing away from reading Molly Ivins. About the story itself, let me say this: Difficulties discussing money in a relationship? Ah, yes, I could write a book about it. At least, I could if only for the fact that the whole subject makes me so crazy that I cannot form one coherent sentence about it. If you don't believe me, ask my husband.
